Susan Easterly met The Unknown Veteran like many modern friendships begin: online. But what began as a digital conversation became something much more—an honest friendship that opened Susan’s eyes to a hidden world.

The Unknown Veteran, a disabled veteran living out of her vehicle in California, shared her life in fragments via emails, stories, and raw confessions. Over time, Susan realized what she was hearing wasn’t just one woman’s journey. It was a reflection of an American truth no one wanted to face.

And so, she wrote.

With The Unknown Veteran’s full participation and blessing, Living the Lam Life is Susan’s attempt to bring a voice to the voiceless. To bear witness to Brenda’s experience. And to challenge a country that criminalizes poverty while rewarding corruption.
